Keneesha Cunningham, 35, was run over and killed by her getaway car driven by one of her shoplifting accomplices. The scene unfolded in a Walmart parking lot early Saturday morning.
Cunningham and her accomplices had entered the Walmart, filled their cart with over $1100 in merchandise, and then walked out of the store without paying.
A Walmart security guards followed the women out to the parking lot and began taking pictures of their car. That is when Cunningham decided to use her body to shield the vehicle’s license plate.
Chermaine Tee Mayo, 38, one of Cunningham’s accomplices, threw the vehicle in reverse and began backing up with Cunningham hanging on. At some point, Cunningham fell off of the vehicle and was run over, immobilizing the Chevrolet Impala getaway car. The driver, Mayo, and passenger Donisha Jaquil Harris, 26, then jumped from the car and fled on foot while their accomplice laid dying under their car.
Police officers responding to the call were able to locate and arrest Mayo and Harris. Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mayo is charged with criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter, negligent vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment, theft of more than $100 and less than $1,500 and conspiracy to commit theft, according to Cecil County District Court records.
Mayo remained in the Cecil County Detention Center without bond until Monday morning, when she posted a $25,000 bond to gain her pre-trial freedom after the original amount was lowered during a district court bail review hearing, court records show.
Harris, who is charged with theft of more than $100 and less than $1,500 and a mirroring conspiracy count, was released on personal recognizance shortly after her arrest, according to court records.
